You stay up for 16 hours.
He stays up for days on end.

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.
He goes days or weeks without running water.

You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.
He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.
He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.

You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you.
He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.
He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.

You complain about how hot it is.
He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.
He doesn't get to eat today.

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.
He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.
He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.

You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.
He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.

You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.
He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.
He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.
He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet.

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.
He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.
He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.

You see only what the media wants you to see.
He sees the broken bodies lying around him.

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.
He does exactly what he is told even if it puts his life in danger.

You stay at home and watch TV.
He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.

you are right that your son is pretty crappy if he does do those things you mention: 1. calls in sick just for a headache 2. complains just because he stayed up sixteen hours 3. goes to a beach just to ogle sexy girls 4. wears t shirts that make fun of soldiers fighting for our corrupt government 5. complains about his lunch and the heat and he STILL HAS A MAID! AND he refuses to go to the store for his parents. Maybe you spoiled his butt too much, honey. You should stop complaining about that brat and enlist him.

Uh first no more anonymous comments. If you would like to leave a comment on my blog that is fine I have taken heat in the past for the things I have posted and I don't mind doing so now if the person is willing to stand behind their comments not hide behind them.
Uh second, this post said nothing about my son and is not a complaint about him either. My son is turning seven and so he is to young to enlist. If and when he is ready to enlist it will be his choice and NOT mine.
Anyone who knows my son knows he is not spoiled and is far from being a "brat".
As for anonymous, you should look over this post again. This was not a complaint but more of a plea to get people to understand the hardships of our troops. You have obviously missed the point.

I am not sure how to post with a name so...My name is Kerri and let me tell you, anyone who can watch this video and has to complain, judge, and jump the gun as "anonymous" did, does not have a heart. I have watched three times already and my eyes water, my heart hurts, and it really makes you think of what we take advantage of today. The only thing I have additional to say, is it is a shame how we have to be reminded...people forget - it is good to move on but to forget things like this; I just do not know any one can forget!

Wow this should really make people think i mean who could forget. It is sad to know that this is happening but so true. Im only 12 years old and i grasp this concept. that anonymous person needs to buzz off and think before they post or speak. This makes me really upset and my heart is heavy.
I just want to let all you people out there that I pray for these soilders. May GOD be with them!!!!!

My name is Jim. I have not posted to this blog before.

I wanted make it clear of who is in the "anti-war" photo.
These people are members of the Westboro Baptist Church. Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr. is the pastor. They are not anti-war, they are anti-homosexual. They accuse America (including our military) of being homosexual. Thus, in their twisted mind, we all should die because we are gay. In their mind, 9-11 and every IED in Iraq is God's revenge for being Gay. They state on their website "God Hates America"

They have picketed funerals for slain students at Virginia Tech and NIU, and even solders funerals with their extreme religious hate.

I hope there is a special place in Hell for the members of WBC.

God Bless America!

My brother was killed in action in Adhamiya, Iraq.

Before he enlisted, I was one of the people this poem talks about, honestly. Living my life completely unconcerned that halfway across the world, there are people fighting and dying to keep me, all of us, safe.

Now, tis a hell of a lot more real.

I just read your post, and I know it like two years old... but I was simply revolted by it, and amazed by people's ignorance. You say that those soldiers have it hard and all that in comparison to how I have or other people that don't go to war, but you forget one thing they choose that, and they are getting paid for that. So they made a conscious choice and they are living the consequences of their own choices. As for fighting for freedom and for the good of people that live there?!?! come on you must be joking! First you have absolutely no contact with their regime and is not like a viral disease to spread they pose no threat to you. Yes the 9/11 was a terrible thing but that doesn't mean that the country itself is a terrorist country. And it's obvious the war was only about petroleum, and the people there never asked mighty America to liberate them or anybody else. The war had nothing to do with ideals or fairness or bringing to justice. And whatever you say war never brings anything good! especially when it's a pointless one. So don't tell me to pity some people that do their "job"(as I said they are getting paid for it and they chose it), even more a despicable one.

P.S. Now I realized that they might not get paid... I dunno... I couldn't find any reference... but my points still stand even without that
